Give Again

Ladies Appreciation Dinner at Elmira Baptist Church.

Serving. I have suggested that a sign of moving out of grief is when one begins to think more of others. Grief is consuming and very self-oriented. Grief gets us back to a place emotionally where we can interact with our world again.

Now, my interest in serving others is taking up more of my mind. This very blog was initiated for me, though. I started writing to sort my thoughts out and keep a record of my progress. I shared these ideas with the hope of somehow serving others. A very passive way to give to others, and it was about the best that I could do, at the time.

I recognize that I have something special. My experience has given me the tools to minister to others in a completely different way. I have knowledge that I cannot keep to myself. I have been comforted, and continue to receive that comfort, and I am able to comfort those who are also in the valley.

[3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. [4] He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. [5] For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5

This is what I mean when I say serving is a sign of progress. It is a natural step, a by-product of being cared for by our Heavenly Father. We love because He loved us.

It is a good feeling to sense the Spirit guiding and moving in my life. Reaching out to others, caring for them, serving them in the name of the Lord…this is life! Give what I have to give. This is not my life, after all…it’s His.

God, please give me strength to be a comfort to others who are hurting. Thank you for the love and care that you are showering on me in Your various ways. You are the God of all comfort. Amen.
